March 20, 2026: Battery Park City Construction Advisory Committee Meeting
State Senator Brian Kavanagh convened the second Construction Advisory Committee meeting for the Northwest Battery Park City Coastal Resiliency Project, bringing together residents, community leaders, and government partners to share updates and discuss how ongoing construction is affecting the neighborhood. Joined by the offices of Congressman Dan Goldman, Assembly Members Charles Fall and Deborah Glick, Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Council Member Christopher Marte, Community Board 1, and the Battery Park City Authority, the meeting continues a regular series focused on transparency, accountability, and minimizing impacts on the community. During the session, the Battery Park City Authority outlined progress on early “site readiness” work now underway across Albany Street, North Cove Marina, and Stuyvesant Plaza. Crews are conducting subsurface test pits, relocating utilities, and preparing tide gate and drainage infrastructure that will support the larger flood protection system scheduled to begin in the spring. These foundational steps are part of the broader effort to protect Battery Park City from storm surge and climate-related flooding. Much of the discussion centered on quality-of-life concerns raised by residents, including construction timing, street and open space access, bike routes, and questions about noise, vibration, and air quality. Project leaders shared expanded communication efforts, including a biweekly construction newsletter, an updated website with more detailed schedules, upcoming workshops and drop-in sessions, and the addition of an independent environmental monitor to provide ongoing oversight and reporting. This recording is shared to ensure neighbors and stakeholders can stay informed and engaged as the resiliency project moves forward.
