ONEONTA, 07/28/09 -- Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced applications are being accepted to help local governments fund “shovel ready” transportation projects.

"Local governments are struggling to keep property taxes down while maintaining their transportation and infrastructure systems,” said Seward.  “Our upstate economy depends on well maintained highways to attract new companies and help existing businesses grow.  Quality of life issues and the safety of our residents are also at stake.”

 

Legislation to establish a wood products development council in New York State (S.4330-A/A.7742-A) within the State Department of Agriculture and Markets has passed both Houses of the New York State Legislature.  This bill was sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) and Assemblywoman RoAnn M. Destito (D/WF-Rome).

Latino Ministers Pray for Peace in Honduras

On Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 1:00pm, New York State Senator Ruben Diaz and the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization will gather at the United Nations Dag Hammarskjold Park on East 47th Street and First Avenue in New York City to pray for peace in Honduras.

This prayer vigil is being organized by Honduran Pastors Sonia Fernandez and Hector Chiesa, member of the Board of Directors of Radio Vision Cristiana.

Extends Health Insurance Coverage From 18 to 36 Months

 

The New York State Senate recently passed legislation (S5471) that will protect unemployed workers by extending their health insurance benefits from 18 months to 36 months, Senator Craig M. Johnson, (D-Nassau), announced. 

New York, NY (July 24, 2009):  The New York State Senate Majority Conference has reached an agreement with  Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on New York City school governance.  The Senate is expected to vote on and pass  S.5887 with a chapter amendment designed to increase parental input, promote enhanced arts education, address  concerns relating to school safety procedures and strengthen the oversight role of the community  superintendents.
