State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon) was recently on hand for the Anthony Casamento Medal of Honor Exhibit Opening at the West Islip Public Library. The exhibit features Corporal Casamento’s Medal of Honor and other related memorabilia thanks to the generosity of his daughter, Mary Casamento of California. Ms. Casamento and other members of her family traveled to West Islip to be at the ceremony commemorating the opening of the exhibit.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently paid a visit to the offices of the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (SCCADV) where he had the opportunity to meet with Executive Director Joanne Sanders and Staff Attorney Adam Small and discuss the legal services programs that the Coalition provides to victims of domestic violence. Senator Johnson was able to secure a state grant of $20,000 to support the coalition’s legal services programs.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, joined with Stony Brook University President Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny; National Grid Executive Director and Deputy Chairman Robert Catell; Senators John Flanagan and Kenneth Lavalle and others, in breaking ground at the new Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center at Stony Brook University. The new Center was made possible in part through a state grant for $35 million that was secured by Senator Johnson and the Long Island Senate delegation.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently joined officials from TII Network Technologies and other elected officials in cutting the ribbon at the company’s new 25,000 square-foot headquarters at the Heartland Center in Edgewood near the Deer Park Train Station. TII is a leader in developing and manufacturing advanced network technology solutions for the telecommunications industry.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was recently joined by Assemblyman Robert Sweeney and Senator Charles Fuschillo in presenting a New York State Legislative Resolution to the Island Drafting and Technical Institute in Amityville. The Institute, which is one of the oldest career colleges on Long Island, recently celebrated 50 years of service to the community.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently paid a visit to the offices of the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition (BBCC) where he had the chance to view the new displays that the Coalition unveiled to help promote their services. Senator Johnson this year secured $50,000 in funding for the BBCC’s patient services and educational programs, as well as their community outreach efforts. Part of this funding was used to purchase these displays.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was on hand for the dedication ceremony of the Town of Babylon’s Tanner Park Boardwalk in Copiague. Senator Johnson secured $1.5 million for the completion of the boardwalk and promenade and the construction of a new beach pavillion. Also honored by the Town of Babylon at the event was former Town of Babylon resident, the late Wanda Tilson, who frequented the Tanner Park Senior Citizen Center and who generously contributed funding for the Senior Center.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, presented Corinne DiSomma of Babylon --Town of Babylon receiver of Taxes -- with the 2007 New York State Woman of Distinction award at a special ceremony held at the State Legislative Office Building this week. Corinne, a lifelong resident of Babylon, was one of more than 40 women from all across the state who were honored with the prestigious award that recognizes women whose work has enriched the quality of life in their communities.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon) and State Senator Caesar Trunzo (3rd Senate District) commended the Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood on reaching their 150th birthday. The private Roman Catholic Academy operates a co-ed elementary and middle school as well as the only all-girls high school in Suffolk County. Their student body is gathered from communities throughout Suffolk County as close as Brentwood and as far away as Hampton Bays.

Senator Owen H. Johnson and Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. today expressed opposition to Long Island Power Authority’s (LIPA) proposed windmill farm off the South Shore of Long Island because of skyrocketing costs that potentially could be passed on to the ratepayers. Senator Johnson and Senator Fuschillo, who made the announcement at a news conference at Jones Beach, praised LIPA for seeking alternative energy sources for Long Island, but added that such projects must be more cost effective.
