US Marine Corps

Robert Jorolemon served in the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of Corporal.

Mr. Jorolemon served from 1968 to 1970, completing training as a Combat Engineer at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He deployed for 13 months to Vietnam, assigned to the First Marine Division, where he was part of a route clearance and security team responsible for a section of Highway 1 around Da Nang. His team cleared mines and improvised explosive devices with demolitions, working to keep the key route open.

For his service and valor, he received numerous awards and decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Rifle Expert Badge.

Active in his community, Mr. Jorolemon has been volunteering since his military service ended in 1969. He joined the American Legion Clark Heck Post 568 in Weedsport, and has spent decades being an instrumental part of keeping it both physically and spiritually alive. He took leadership in overseeing the relocation of the Veterans Memorial Rock from the old library to the Legion grounds.

Mr. Jorolemon was a volunteer committee member with the Weedsport Boy Scout Troop 59 in the 1980s and 1990s, and has been involved with fundraising to support the Boy’s State Program. He established a Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the Aqueduct Park, and in September 2020, there was a dedication held to commemorate this special project. Mr. Jorolemon has helped plan annual Memorial Day parades, programs, and Veterans Day ceremonies at both the elementary and high schools.

A longtime member of the Lion’s Club, Mr. Jorolemon has been a volunteer with SCAT van services, transporting community members to various locations. Through his leadership as President of the Lion’s Club, he has raised funds to support several worthwhile causes, including the local library, ambulance fund, scholarships, and dedication to the vision program.

Mr. Jorolemon was awarded the Graduate of Distinction Award for Weedsport. Over the years, he received numerous recognitions, including the Lions’s Club International President’s Award, the Weedsport Area Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of the Year, the Lion’s Club Governor’s Memorial Award, and the Lion’s Club Community Service Award.
