Gloster Rogers
Honoree Profile
Gloster Rogers served in the United States Army as a Private First Class.
A proud veteran and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Rogers served during a critical moment in American history. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Mr. Rogers was drafted into the Army from 1961 to 1963. He proudly served on active duty, stationed in Munich, Germany, where he worked as a 106-gun operator. His service concluded with the rank of Private First Class, marking his commitment to duty
and his country.
Born with a passion for music, Mr. Rogers became a celebrated bass singer in the 1950s and ‘60s with the legendary American singing group Anthony & The Imperials. His rich bass vocals can be heard on numerous beloved hits, including “Tears on My Pillow” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop.”
Following his honorable military service, Mr. Rogers continued his dedication to public service, working in maintenance at Bellevue Hospital. He then had a long and commendable career in the New York City Transit Authority, where he served in the Maintenance Department, and retired after 26 years of service.
When Mr. Rogers returned home to Brooklyn, New York, he built a life grounded in family, hard work, and community service. He married Loretta Amelia Rogers, and together they raised a loving family, including two children, Keith Rogers Sr. and Nicole Rogers, and a stepson, Todd Lewis Hunt. They also have four grandchildren: Tyrell Nathaniel Rogers, Keith Nathaniel Rogers Jr., Sasia Keia-Lanique Rogers, and Tristin Nico Fontaine.
In recognition of his contributions to American music and culture, Mr. Rogers was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 as a member of Anthony & The Imperials.
Mr. Rogers is a distinguished resident of Hamilton Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He is celebrated not only for his musical legacy, but also for his honorable military service and lifetime of contributions to his community and family. It is with deep pride and gratitude that we recognize Mr. Rogers for his exemplary service and lasting impact.
