State Senator Sam Sutton represents New York’s 22nd Senate District in South Brooklyn. Before entering public office, he led his family business for more than three decades and sold it to an international conglomerate. He served over 30 years on the board of Sephardic Bikur Holim - five as president - during which the organization grew into a multidivisional social-service center. He co-founded the Sephardic Community Federation and Teach NYS, supported the launch of the New York Cancer Center, and was a founding board member of the SAFE Foundation. Sutton was nominated by Governor George Pataki to the CUNY Board of Trustees and served from 2006 to 2012, helping recruit the presidents of Brooklyn College and City College. Earlier, he helped establish the Sephardic Torah Learning Center (1973) and later helped relaunch Ozar Hatorah NY (2017). He and his wife, Nancy, opened their home to 14 foster children and led humanitarian initiatives, including a 2005 project in Senegal. He graduated from Yeshiva of Flatbush (’67) and Yeshiva University (’71).
