SENATOR NOZZOLIO TO GOVERNOR: HANDS OFF NEW YORK STATE APPLE ASSOCIATION

State Senator Mike Nozzolio is calling on Governor Paterson to immediately withdraw his proposal to increase fees on Apple growers in New York State. The proposed 2010-11 Executive Budget calls for an 82% increase in Apple Marketing Order (AMO) and 136% increase in Apple Research and Development Program (ARDP) fees.

Senate Majority Committed To Saving Our Parks

Senate Democrats Preserve Recreational Facilities and Bolster Small Businesses

(Albany, NY) Today, the Senate Majority and advocates stood together in support of State Parks.

On Monday, the Majority Conference unanimously voted for a budget resolution which restored all $11.5 million of the Governor’s budget cuts to parks operations.  If enacted, the cut would have resulted in the closure of 57 State Parks and reduced operations at an additional 22 State Parks.

Senate Passes Legislation Sponsored by Senator Valesky to Expand Wine Industry

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—New York State’s growing wine industry received a boost today with passage of legislation (S.6780) sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) that would legalize the sale of wine-based frozen desserts.

Legislation passed in 2008 legalized the sale of wine ice cream, and this bill expands the law to include non-dairy based frozen treats such as sorbet and sherbet.

Senator Valesky recognized the need for expansion of the law after speaking to producers that wanted to market wine sorbet, but found that current law would not permit it.
