Seward Plows Under Farm-Threatening Labor Bill

ALBANY, 04/20/10 -- Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the Senate Agriculture Committee defeated senate bill 2247b, also known as the Farm Worker Fair Labor Practice Act.

“Defeating the so called, farm worker labor bill is a clear victory for our upstate farmers, farm workers and the agriculture industry,” said Senator Seward.  “The bill, supported mainly by New York City politicians, would have forced farms to close, while driving up costs for the few survivors.”

Statement on 'Farm Labor Death Bill'

Albany, NY –  State Senator Mike Ranzenhofer and his colleagues led the effort to defeat the Farm Labor Death Bill earlier this morning.  The State Senate Agriculture Committee has voted down Senate Bill No. 2247 by a six to three vote, preventing the legislation from moving to the Senate floor for a vote or being released to another committee for consideration.

FARM LABOR BILL DIES IN AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE


ALBANY – A major victory was scored on behalf of farms across Upstate New York on Tuesday, when a farm labor bill that would devastate upstate’s farming industry was defeated in the Senate’s Agriculture Committee, according to the committee’s ranking member Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C – Olean).

SENATOR NOZZOLIO TO GOVERNOR: HANDS OFF NEW YORK STATE APPLE ASSOCIATION

State Senator Mike Nozzolio is calling on Governor Paterson to immediately withdraw his proposal to increase fees on Apple growers in New York State. The proposed 2010-11 Executive Budget calls for an 82% increase in Apple Marketing Order (AMO) and 136% increase in Apple Research and Development Program (ARDP) fees.

Senate Majority Committed To Saving Our Parks

Senate Democrats Preserve Recreational Facilities and Bolster Small Businesses

(Albany, NY) Today, the Senate Majority and advocates stood together in support of State Parks.

On Monday, the Majority Conference unanimously voted for a budget resolution which restored all $11.5 million of the Governor’s budget cuts to parks operations.  If enacted, the cut would have resulted in the closure of 57 State Parks and reduced operations at an additional 22 State Parks.
