Senate Supports Agriculture, Passes Bills Benefitting Maple and Honey Producers

The New York State Senate showed strong support for New York’s agriculture industry and markets today, passing two bills (S6318, S6268) which will allow those agribusinesses dealing with the production of honey and maple to run their operations more efficiently and more profitably.

Seward Bands With Farmers - Fights Farm Labor Bill

ALBANY, 03/01/10 -- Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today participated in a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on senate bill 2247b, also known as the Farm Worker Fair Labor Practice Act.

“The bill, supported mainly by New York City politicians, would force farms to close, and drive one more industry, our top industry, out of New York state,” said Senator Seward.  “Ultimately, farm workers, who the bill is aimed at protecting, would wind up on the unemployment line, costing all New Yorkers.”

Public Hearing set for Farm Labor Death Bill

Albany, NY – The State Senate Agriculture Committee has set a public hearing on the Farm Labor Death Bill for Monday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hearing Room A of the Legislative Office Building.

“The public hearing is an open, transparent way to conduct the people’s business. While I strongly oppose the proposed legislation, I am looking forward to listening to both sides of the issue,” said Senator Ranzenhofer.
