RITCHIE, NORTH COUNTRY ARTS COUNCIL TEAM UP TO “CELEBRATE LOCAL ARTISTS”

In an effort to recognize local artistic talent in Central and Northern New York, State Senator Patty Ritchie, along with the North Country Arts Council hosted a celebration of the arts Thursday evening in Watertown.

At the event those who have participated in the “Senator Ritchie Celebrates Local Artists” program were recognized.  Through the effort, two dozen artists have had their work featured in Senator Ritchie’s Albany, Ogdensburg, Oswego and Watertown offices.   The work of past featured artists can be viewed at Downtown Watertown’s Franklin Building or by clicking here

In addition, at the event, high school students from the Central and Northern New York region were inducted into Senator Ritchie’s local artists program, and in the weeks to come, will have their artwork featured in her offices.  Several high school students were also invited to perform in the areas of song and dance.

Senator Klein Passes Resolution on State Senate Floor Honoring Pelham Manor Club’s 100th Anniversary

ALBANY, NY – Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) honored the 100thAnniversary of Pelham Manor Club by passing a resolution on the floor of the State Senate in Albany. The Manor Club has long been a civic and cultural center for women in Pelham and Pelham Manor with a proud history of community service across New York.

White Plains Historical Society Celebration of George Washington's Birthday

On February 23rd, Senator Stewart-Cousins and other local elected officials joined the White Plains Historical Society at the Jacob Purdy House to celebrate the birthday of America's Founder, George Washington. The event program included a flag raising ceremony and a lecture by historian Barnet Schecter titled "Revolutionary War Battles in NY Through George Washington's Maps". The coverlet containing pictures of historic White Plains houses and buildings, which the Senator happily purchased to support the organization, can be purchased at the WPHS online gift shop.

Senator Jeff Klein Hosts Annual Black History Month Breakfast, Honoring African-American Leaders

BRONX, NY – State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) hosted his annual Black History Month Breakfast at Villa Barone Manor this morning, honoring local black leaders and featuring a keynote address from Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. Nearly 300 constituents attended the breakfast.

Senator Serrano Meets with the Coalition of Living Museums

(Albany, NY)- Senator Serrano met with a group from the Coalition of Living Museums (CLM). CLM  provides support to 112 organizations statewide, including the Bronx Zoo and the NY Botanical Garden. The group met with Serrano to advocate for much needed funding in support of these living museums, zoos and botanical gardens. To help make their point, the group brought with them Scooter, an Eastern Screech owl.

BRONX, NY– Standing in front of the south side of Joseph Rodman Drake Park in Hunts Point, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), local elected officials and Bronx community leaders called for official recognition of an African Slave Burial Ground discovered last year. Evidence of the Burial Ground site was discovered last year by a group of students at P.S. 48, led by Teacher-Historian, Philip Panaritis at the south side of Drake Park.

Haitian Resources Center First Annual Gala

Senator Stewart-Cousins recognized the Haitian Resource Center with a proclamation at their First Annual Gala on Friday, December 13th at the Thomas H. Slater Center in White Plains, NY. Just established in March this year, the mission of the Haitian Resource Center is to provide services to the growing and underserved Haitian population in Westchester County" including enrichment programs for children and referrals for immigration and citizenship services among others.

Senator Serrano Joins The Orchestra of the Bronx for their Annual Production of Handel's Messiah

(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano joined The Orchestra of the Bronx at Bronx Community College for a presentation of Handel's Messiah. Serrano, who is a long-time advocate for the arts, served as one of the orators for this annual holiday event. The event is widely-attended and has become a holiday tradition for the Bronx community. The Orchestra of the Bronx (The Bronx Opera Chorus and soloists), conducted by Michael Spearman, presented the words in Handel's timeless musical settings.

Seward Lends Hand To Phoenicia Library

PHOENICIA, 12/05/13 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced a $20,000 state grant to assist with reconstruction and expansion of the Phoenicia Library.

Senator Klein Lights Riverdale Menorah on Fifth Night of Chanukah

RIVERDALE, NY - Joined by Rabbi Levi Y. Shamtov, Executive Director of Chabad Lubavitc, along with community and faith Leaders of Riverdale, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) lit the Menorah at the bell tower monument on Henry Hudson Parkway in Riverdale on the fifth night of Chanukah.

Senator Klein said: “Chanukah is a celebration of the resilience of the Jewish people. It's always a joy to spend time during Chanukah with family and friends like Rabbi Shamtov. I was honored to light the Riverdale Menorah on the fifth night, and I hope everyone throughout New York enjoys a happy and healthy Chanukah."
