2012 Brooklyn Gun Buy Back Program Frequently Asked Questions

 

How should I bring a gun to the drop off site?

Guns must be placed in a plastic or paper bag or box.

Can I transport a gun in my car?

Yes. If transporting the gun by car, the gun must be transported in the trunk of the car.

When do I get the cash card?

After the gun is screened by officers and determined to be operable, you will be issued a cash card.

Can I surrendeer a rifle or shotgun?

Yes, rifles and shotguns will be accepted. However, the payout for rifles and shotguns is only $20.

How many guns can I surrender?

Senator Martin Malavé Dilan is partnering with King's County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, Assemblymember Rafael Espinal, Councilmember Erik Martin Dilan, and NYPD Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, to host a Cash For Guns, no questions asked, gun buyback program in Brooklyn, Saturday December 15.

Turn in a weapon and receive a $200 Bank Card for a operable handgun, and a $20 bank card for operable rifles and shotguns.

First Meeting Held on NHP PAL Gym Renovation

Members of the New Hyde Park PAL, led by Officer Kevin Worth, the director of the program, met on Monday morning, November 19, to discuss plans for the renovation of the gymnasium at the PAL's headquarters on Denton Avenue in New Hyde Park. Funding is now in place for work to be done renovating the gym, which will include a new gym floor. Work will also be done to alleviate any future flooding programs. Senator Jack M. Martins is assisting the PAL in looking for other revenue sources for the project.

Senator Serrano today celebrated the ribbon cutting of the New Settlement Community Center in the Bronx. The celebration was hosted by the Settlement Housing Fund and New Settlement Apartments. Located in the Mt. Eden section of the Southwest Bronx, the New Settlement Community Center is part of a larger community school campus that combines two new public schools, pre-Kindergarten through grade twelve, special education classrooms, a health clinic and outdoor places.

POUGHKEEPSIE CITY WATERFRONT PARK GAINS TRACTION

A waterfront public park could open in 2013 if the sale of a historic City of Poughkeepsie parcel to the Dyson Foundation continues to move forward.

Lawmakers in the New York state Assembly and Senate last week adopted home-rule legislation authorizing the city to sell the Upper Landing parcel to the Millbrook-based philanthropic organization.  State Sen. Steve Saland, R-Poughkeepsie, and Assemblyman Frank Skartados, D-Milton, spearheaded the passing of the bills in both chambers of the Legislature.
