Governor Cuomo Outlines 2013-2014 Executive Budget to Maintain Fiscal Responsibility and Continue to Invest in Economic Growth

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo unveiled the proposed 2013-14Executive Budget and Management Plan that builds on two years of balanced, fiscally responsible budgeting and invests in economic development, education reform, rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy, provides support to local governments and school districts, and includes no new taxes or fees.

Highlights of the Executive Budget:

· Eliminates $1.3 billion budget gap with no new taxes or fees. The expected gap for 2013-14 was projected to be $17.4 billion prior to the last two responsible budgets.

· Holds spending increases below 2 percent for third consecutive year.

Groundbreaking in Mineola-Carle Place on Project to Alleviate Flooding

Senator Martins Secures Funding to Put an End to Longstanding Problem

Ground has been broken on a project to alleviate flooding in the Bruce Terrace/Fairfield areas of Mineola and Carle Place. The flooding has been a decades-old problem plaguing some of the residents of those areas who experienced flooding in their homes as a result of heavy rains. However, the end of the problem is now within sight. Senator Jack M. Martins was able to secure a grant, which he distributed to the Village of Mineola, Town of North Hempstead and Nassau County , bringing the three governmental entities together to put an end to the longstanding problem.

Job Creation Projects In 51st Senate District Net $21 Million

Senator Martins Announces $100,000 in Grant Funding for Hempstead Turnpike

State Senator Jack Martins announced a $100,000 economic development revitalization grant for the Elmont community today which is yet another significant investment in Hempstead Turnpike. The grant comes on the heels of a multi-million dollar safety improvement project Governor Cuomo, Senator Martins, Senator Dean Skelos and Senator Kemp Hannon delivered to the Elmont and Franklin Square communities a few months ago. The Martins grant funding will be used towards a streetscaping revitalization project on the Turnpike next to the new Elmont Public Library. The funding is a team effort with the Town of Hempstead, Councilman Edward Ambrosino and Supervisor Kate Murray.

How should I bring a gun to the drop off site?

Guns must be placed in a plastic or paper bag or box.

Can I transport a gun in my car?

Yes. If transporting the gun by car, the gun must be transported in the trunk of the car.

When do I get the cash card?

After the gun is screened by officers and determined to be operable, you will be issued a cash card.

Can I surrendeer a rifle or shotgun?

Yes, rifles and shotguns will be accepted. However, the payout for rifles and shotguns is only $20.

First Meeting Held on NHP PAL Gym Renovation

Members of the New Hyde Park PAL, led by Officer Kevin Worth, the director of the program, met on Monday morning, November 19, to discuss plans for the renovation of the gymnasium at the PAL's headquarters on Denton Avenue in New Hyde Park. Funding is now in place for work to be done renovating the gym, which will include a new gym floor. Work will also be done to alleviate any future flooding programs. Senator Jack M. Martins is assisting the PAL in looking for other revenue sources for the project.
