Alliance for Municipal Power

Representatives of the Alliance for Municipal Power, a coalition of 24 municipalities in St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties, were in Albany on April 20 to lobby the passage of a bill to create the North Country Power Authority, which would enable the municipalities to band together to buy and sell energy at a discount to residents in those municipalities.

Sen. Aubertine sponsored this legislation in the Senate, which passed on March 8.

Senate Majority Announces "Earth Day 2010" Environmental Agenda

The State Senate Democratic Majority will bring nine bills to the floor today demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation; the Majority’s “Earth Day 2010” package will strengthen environmental and citizen protections to create a cleaner, greener and healthier New York for future generations. Today’s legislation will inform consumers of mileage when purchasing a vehicle, ban the use of some chemicals on grounds at day care centers and schools, and foster recycling programs for computers and other forms of e-waste, as well as rechargeable batteries.

Serrano Reminds New Yorkers to Conserve Energy During Earth Hour 2010

Today Senator José M. Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) reminded all New Yorkers to conserve energy by turning their lights off for one hour tomorrow night during Earth Hour 2010. The Senator's resolution, requesting that Governor David A. Paterson adopt 8:30 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2009 as "Earth Hour" in a show of solidarity to combat global climate change, passed through the Senate unanimously on Wednesday, March 24th.
