Seward Announces Funding For Healthier Kids

"Always There" 40th Anniversary - Ribbon Cutting & Open House held on 1/27/2010

On January 27th, 2010 Senator Bonacic attended the Always There 40th Anniversary Ribbon Cutting and Open House which marked the completion of their newly remodeled office at 918 Ulster Avenue, Kingston, New York.  Senator Bonacic presented the Executive Director, Deb Glassey, with a New York State Senate Resolution commemorating their 40th Anniversary.  Always There is a not-for-profit health care organization.

On Friday, January 22, Senator Thomas K. Duane held a public hearing of the Senate Health Committee on the topic of Food Policy in New York State.  Senator Duane was joined by at the hearing, held in New York City, by Health Committee ranking member Kemp Hannon and Senator Martin Golden.

The hearing brought together representatives from health care industry and public health experts, and the food and beverage industries as well as consumers and hunger advocates to receive input and listen to feedback on three policy approaches to combating obesity in New York State:

Senate Approves Nurse Practitioners To Sign Death Certificates

The NYS Senate passed legislation (S.2969) this week permitting the nearly 13,000 certified nurse practitioners from across the state to sign death certificates ensuring the delivery of appropriate and medically-accurate postmortem care.

The legislation, sponsored by Senator Velmanette Montgomery (D-Brooklyn), gives nurse practitioners the authority and responsibility to complete death certificates in the same manner as physicians, medical examiners and coroners.

National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Early Evaluation Program

On Saturday, January 23rd, The National Kidney Foundation is hosting a FREE Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP). Screening takes place from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Memorial AME Zion Church, 549 Clarissa Street, Rochester.

KEEP is a health screening program designed to help identify and educate individuals who are at increased risk for developing kidney disease. It is the most comprehensive screening program in the nation. KEEP is of no cost to the participant.
