Urban League of Rochester Breaks Ground on M+M Project

I was honored to help the Urban League of Rochester break ground on its newest project, M+M Rochester. The Urban League is redeveloping the Michelsen Building in the City of Rochester as part of the M+M Rochester project, and will feature 59 affordable rental apartments. Congratulations to the Urban League of Rochester and everyone involved in this project, and thanks for this investment in the City of Rochester.

Welcome to the Gardens at Town Center

Just thirteen months ago, I helped break ground on the Gardens at Town Center on Latta Road in the Town of Greece. Yesterday, I helped cut the ribbon on this state of the art senior living center, which will provide seniors in our community with affordable housing and all of the great amenities that come with it! Congratulations to Nelson Leenhouts and everyone at Home Leasing on this great project.

Carriage Factory Apartments by DePaul

Congratulations to Mark Fuller and DePaul on the completion of their latest project, the Carriage Factory Apartments. Located in the Susan B. Anthony neighborhood in the City of Rochester, these studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments will offer affordable housing tenants in the former Cunningham Carriage Factory building. This is an incredible transformation of this building and site, and will help the revitalization of this area of the City of Rochester.

The Apartments at 300 Alexander

It was an exciting day yesterday in downtown Rochester for the grand opening of 300 Alexander Street. This incredible project, developed by Mark IV Enterprises, has transformed a 1850s building into modern, state of the art apartments. Abandoned for too long, this building will now provide housing in the heart of East and Alexander. Once again, congratulations to the DiMarzo's and everyone at Mark IV Enterprises!

Investigation finds 15 most egregious heat code offenders in borough; recommends remedies to HPD to keep buildings in compliance

BRONX, NY – State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) today released a report, “Turning Up the Heat: An Investigative Report into The Bronx’s Coldest Buildings,” which includes a list of the top 15 heat code offenders in the borough.

As chilly temperatures set in, tenants, who reside in buildings on the list, have already called in complaints of “no heat” or “no heat/hot water” to the city’s Housing and Preservation Department.

Senator Valesky Attends Groundbreaking for Rescue Mission Facility

Senator Valesky joined other local officials and representatives from the Rescue Mission on November 17 for a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the organization's future Emergency Shelter/Day Center facility. Construction has begun on the building, and the project is expected to be finished in late summer 2015. The new facility will increase emergency shelter bed capacity from 132 currently to 183 beds.

Redeveloping the Bevier Building

I was pleased to join officials from the City of Rochester, Monroe County and area developers to announce details about the redevelopment of the historic Bevier Building in downtown Rochester. I have been to countless groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, but this was my first Tape and Spackling ceremony! When completed, this project will feature office space and 15 loft-style apartments, and is the latest example of the revitalization of downtown Rochester!

New Laws Open Doors For Oneonta Housing

ONEONTA, 10/21/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced legislation he sponsored, authorizing the City of Oneonta Common Council to provide tax exemptions for those building new homes in the city has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo.  Senator Seward’s bill (S.5991) follows a home rule request from the City of Oneonta.

This mixed use development will not only benefit UR students and faculty, it will be a retail and dining destination for people from all over our region. College Town provides that small town college feeling in the City of Rochester and will be a major economic engine for our community.

I recently helped break ground on an exciting senior housing project off Long Pond Road in the Town of Greece. Located on excess property behind Greece Baptist Church, Long Pond Senior Housing will offer 54 units of supportive rental housing for seniors 55 and older.

Ground Breaking at Stadium Estates Apartments

I recently joined officials from the City of Rochester and New York State to help break ground on the Stadium Estates Apartments. Located in the JOSANA Neighborhood near Sahlen's Stadium, this project consists of 45 rental units and will be supported by the Charles Settlement House. This is a great development for the JOSANA Neighborhood and the City of Rochester.
