Senator Seward Named Chairman of Senate Insurance Committee

ALBANY, 01/11/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) is set to fight for vital insurance needs in the new senate session after being named chairman of the senate insurance committee.

“Finding quality, affordable health insurance is a constant struggle for families and businesses.  As chairman of the senate insurance committee, I will help guide state policy and ensure more people have proper coverage,” Seward said.  “Fighting fraud that drives up insurance costs for everyone, including the state, will also be a priority.”

Seward previously served as senate insurance committee chairman from 1999 through 2008.

LARKIN REMINDS THOSE WITH PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS TO APPLY FOR INSURANCE THROUGH THE NEW YORK BRIDGE PLAN


Applications Now Being Accepted

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) wants to remind those individuals who have a pre-existing health condition but do not have insurance coverage that applications are now being accepted through the New York Bridge Plan. This new insurance plan covers individuals who have a pre-existing medical condition but have not had insurance coverage for the past six months. To be eligible, you must also be a New York State resident and a US citizen or legal resident.

Senator Oppenheimer Hosts Caregiver Support Seminar at White Plains High School

On October 13, 2010, Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) sponsored a free caregiver seminar in the Atrium of White Plains High School. The event featured experts from the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) who offered tips and techniques for taking care of loved ones and preventing caregiver burnout.

White Plains School Superintendent Christopher Clouet welcomed the audience and introduced the Senator, saying “Senator Oppenheimer has the vision to bring community members together to discuss and strategize on the delicate issues facing caregivers. The school district is delighted to host this important event.”

New York's Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan Now Accepting Applications


NY Bridge Plan Will Begin October 1, 2010

 


 

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced today that a new insurance program to assist those individuals who have pre-existing health conditions is now accepting applications for coverage. The NY Bridge Plan, as the new program is known, will start providing coverage on October 1st to those people accepted into the program.

KLEIN FIGHTS FOR HOMEOWNERS AGAINST UNNECESSARY INSURANCE COSTS

Throggs Neck seniors Lenore and Dominick Marano avoided being charged more than a thousand dollars in unnecessary insurance costs thanks to State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester). Klein worked with the Maranos' mortgage lender to help fight a nearly $1,400 increase in their annual flood insurance premium.

 

This spring, the Maranos received a letter from their bank with whom they have a mortgage stating that their flood insurance had to be dramatically extended. The letter said that their yearly flood insurance premium would double. Upon receiving this information, the Maranos immediately contacted Senator Klein’s office.
