Governor Cuomo's 2012 Executive Budget and Reform Plan Outlines Vision to Continue Building a New New York

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today unveiled his 2012-13 Executive Budget and Reform Plan, which expands on the historic reforms enacted last year to continue building a New New York. As a result of the tough decisions and bipartisan cooperation of the past year, the State is able to close the current deficit without broad cuts, new taxes, fees or gimmicks. In addition, the Governor’s Executive Budget proposes major reforms to reduce the cost of government for taxpayers, implements accountability in our schools to put students first, and puts the State in a position to leverage billions of dollars in private sector investment to grow the economy and create jobs.

Independent Democratic Conference Releases 2012 Legislative Agenda

 

NEW YORK, NY - The Independent Democratic Conference  released its 2012 legislative agenda Thursday aimed at strengthening this state's economy, improving the lives of New York residents, and preserving New York's progressive tradition.

The agenda was released on the anniversary of the IDC's formation and after a successful year that saw many of the conference's 2011 priorities made into law.

The Middle Class Tax Cut and Job Creation Plan

After Albany approved a sweeping tax reform and job growth plan designed to provide income tax reductions to 4.4 million New Yorkers and thousands of small businesses, Western New York State Senator Patrick M. Earthlink Cuts Ribbon on New Location

On Tuesday, December 20th, Senator Robach had the privilege to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Earthlink's new location at Alexander Park, representing a $12 million investment over the next three years and the retention of nearly 450 local jobs. Alexander Park is just part of EarthLink’s overall investment and retention of jobs in the Western New York region, which includes the recent acquisitions of One Communications, LogicalSolutions, xDefenders and the closing today of EarthLink’s acquisition of Synergy Global’s IT Solutions Center. The company also announced that it will lease an additional 6,000 square feet at Alexander Park, the former Genesee Hospital site, from owner Buckingham Properties, increasing EarthLink’s total occupancy to more than 71,000 square feet.

Zeldin: Let’s Complete Trifecta for Long Island Fishing Industry

DEC Considers Lowering Minimum Size Limit for Fluke

Ronkonkoma, NY – State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) and fishing industry leaders today hailed the announcement by Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officials, that New York State may reduce the size limit for fluke for the upcoming recreational fluke fishing season.

The current size limit for fluke caught recreationally in New York State waters is 20.5 inches. The 2012 fluke season may see a reduction in that limit to 19.5 or maybe even 19 inches.

Albany Tax Deal: A Start, But Far From Done

In another whirlwind session in Albany, Gov. Andrew Cuomo pushed through a new tax plan that will generate $1.5 billion in much needed additional revenue for the state. I supported the plan because that revenue will make it easier to balance the budget without devastating cuts to education, health care and social services, and because it creates a more progressive tax structure than we would have if we did nothing. But there is also plenty to be critical of, both in terms of the minimal progressive reform to our tax structure and the record-breaking 26 minutes the Legislature and public had to review the contents of the package.

Cuomo this past Monday, December 12, 2011, as the Governor signed into law a new measure to eliminate the MTA Payroll Tax for approximately 80 percent of all employers currently paying the tax. Senator Dilan Announces Passage of Inner City Youth Employment Program

Brooklyn—State Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Bushwick) announced the passage of a new Inner City Youth Employment Program and Tax credit initiative for the State of New York.  The new program, created within the legislation adopted during extraordinary session on December 7th,  sets aside $87 million for inner city youth.  The funding is allocated through programs, training funds, and tax credits to deal with the crisis of inner city youth unemployment.

STATE SENATOR LEE ZELDIN JOINS GOVERNOR CUOMO FOR BILL SIGNING OF LAW REPEALING MTA PAYROLL TAX FOR OVER 700K TAXPAYERS

West Hempstead, N.Y. – State Senator Lee M. Zeldn (R, C, I- Shirley) joined his legislative colleagues and Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today as the Governor signed into law a new measure to eliminate the MTA Payroll Tax for approximately 80 percent of all employers currently paying the tax.

Last week, the Legislature passed a bill repealing the MTA Payroll Tax for 78.2 percent of all employers (over 700,000 taxpayers). In addition, thousands more will see a reduction. In addition to the 290,000 employers who will have their tax eliminated, 414,000 self-employed taxpayers will also see the MTA Tax repealed. All elementary and secondary schools, both public and private, will now also be completely exempt from the payroll tax.
