Senator Young Announces New Civil Service Test

The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is seeking correction officers

 OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) joined the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in announcing that a New York State Department of Civil Service test will be administered on April 13, 2013 as part of a correction officer recruitment effort. The deadline for filing for the examination is February 25, 2013.

Governor Cuomo Outlines 2013-2014 Executive Budget to Maintain Fiscal Responsibility and Continue to Invest in Economic Growth

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo unveiled the proposed 2013-14Executive Budget and Management Plan that builds on two years of balanced, fiscally responsible budgeting and invests in economic development, education reform, rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy, provides support to local governments and school districts, and includes no new taxes or fees.

Highlights of the Executive Budget:

· Eliminates $1.3 billion budget gap with no new taxes or fees. The expected gap for 2013-14 was projected to be $17.4 billion prior to the last two responsible budgets.

· Holds spending increases below 2 percent for third consecutive year.

Senator Kennedy Rallies for Minimum Wage Increase, Urges Albany to Raise the People’s Pay

Over 100 people joined Kennedy at Friday’s rally at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center. 

State lawmakers Kennedy, Peoples-Stokes, Ryan support measures to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $8.75 an hour and linking future increases to the Consumer Price Index.

This afternoon, I had the opportunity to speak at the grand opening ceremony for MediSked, LLC, located on University Avenue. MediSked, LLC was born out of a partnership between provider agency management and proven success with software engineering. The founders of MediSked started the company as a research innovation at RIT in Rochester, NY back in 2003. What started out as an exhaustive search for an existing agency management software solution specific for home and community based provider agencies, quickly turned into the creation of MediSked and its one of a kind software solution that manages the unique workflows and requirements of such agencies.

Labor dispute at Sunny Day Car Wash in Bronx clouds the holiday season for picketing workers Local pols join protesting carwash heros to demand their jobs back

Picketing workers who say they were wrongly fired and want to get back to work were joined by local politicians in confronting a Bronx car wash manager Monday.

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera and City Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito walked with several of the fired washers to the cash register inside Sunny Day Car Wash on 135th St. near the Third Ave. Bridge, and asked to speak with owner Frank Roman.

Senator Kennedy Announces Upcoming Deadline for NY Youth Works Employment Program

Kennedy reminds residents that youth must apply for certification in NY Youth Works program by December 31, 2012. Businesses must apply for certification by November 30, 2012. 

NY Youth Works helps address unemployment among inner-city youth with job-training for applicants and tax credits for employers. 

Kennedy encourages more businesses to get involved in NY Youth Works to help alleviate unemployment in City of Buffalo.
