Advocating for mental health services for veterans, Senator Patty Ritchie addressed the Mental Health Association in New York State (MHANYS) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) at the Association's annual legislative lobby day rally in Albany.

State Senator Patty Ritchie is now accepting nominations from veterans’ posts, family members and community leaders in Central and Northern New York for induction in the New York State Senate’s "Veterans Hall of Fame” program.
The online Hall of Fame pays tribute to New Yorkers who have served their country in the US Armed Forces and made significant contributions to their communities.

The NYS Department of Financial Services (DFS) is setting new rules to speed the processing of insurance claims in areas affected by Storm Sandy. The new regulation reduces the amount of time an insurer can delay its decision on a claim, and requires insurers to report to the Department on how many claims it is delaying and the reasons for the delays.
BRONX, NY - Senator Jeffrey D. Peters VA Medical Center. Senator Klein and Ms. Meriwether hosted “Valentines for Veterans” at the Center. After the program, Senator Klein, Ms. Meriwether and children from the PS 83 Children’s Choir helped distribute valentines and gift bags given by children at 25 schools across the Bronx.
On February 1, 2013, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco officially wrapped up his 2013 Cell Phones for Soldiers collection drive to benefit our deployed soldiers. Senator DeFrancisco announced that his office collected 1,500 donated cell phones this season- a record amount! These phones will provide nearly 6,000 hours of free talk time to soldiers stationed around the world.
Senator DeFranciso is grateful to the Central New York community for its overwhelming support. He also thanks all of the local businesses, schools and organizations that served as his designated collection sites. These sites were expanded into Auburn, Fayetteville and Manlius this season:

The legislation is named “Jobs for Heroes.”
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo unveiled the proposed 2013-14Executive Budget and Management Plan that builds on two years of balanced, fiscally responsible budgeting and invests in economic development, education reform, rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy, provides support to local governments and school districts, and includes no new taxes or fees.
Highlights of the Executive Budget:
· Eliminates $1.3 billion budget gap with no new taxes or fees. The expected gap for 2013-14 was projected to be $17.4 billion prior to the last two responsible budgets.
· Holds spending increases below 2 percent for third consecutive year.

Julian Ross Made Honorary “Sergeant” by 10th Mountain Division Soldiers
State Senator Patty Ritchie, along with members of Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division, on Tuesday visited the home of Julian Ross, an Oswego County second grader who has been battling cancer for more than a year.
Utilizing her close ties with Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division, Senator Ritchie arranged the visit after learning of seven year-old Julian’s fascination with all-things military.
Senator Ritchie Partners with Radio Host, American Red Cross for ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’
Central and Northern New Yorkers have donated more than 2,200 holiday cards to State Senator Patty Ritchie’s offices for distribution to service members at military installations, veterans hospitals and other locations around the world through the American Red Cross program “Holiday Mail for Heroes.”
Earlier this holiday season, Senator Ritchie partnered with Ogdensburg native and radio personality Melody Burns to enlist the public’s support for the initiative.
State Senator Patty Ritchie visited Lisbon Central School Wednesday to collect handmade holiday cards from students in Jane Brown-Flack’s second grade class who took part in the American Red Cross’ ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’ program.
Senator Ritchie is partnering with Ogdensburg native and radio personality Melody Burns to urge the public to support ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes,’ which helps to deliver tens of thousands of holiday greetings every year to service members at military installations, veterans hospitals and other locations.
So far, nearly 1,000 holiday greetings have been donated from as far away as Missouri, as well as schools and veterans posts in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.
The Bronx, NY – On Wednesday, November 14th at the Hutchinson Metro Center at 1200 Waters Place in The Bronx, NY, Senator Klein will host a job fair exclusively for our nation’s veterans. At the event, over 30 New York and Bronx based employers will reach out to veterans about current openings at their company or institution. To maximize the use of each veteran’s time, Senator Klein has only invited those employers who currently have job opportunities available and are actively seeking to employ our returning vets.
