Senator Valesky: Actions Demonstrate Commitment to Bipartisanship and Improving Senate Operations

Senator Valesky Appointed to Advisory Board to Address Expanded Broadcast of Legislative Proceedings

ALBANY, N.Y.)--State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) was appointed to the Joint Advisory Board on the Broadcast of State Government Proceedings.

The eight-member, bi-partisan Joint Advisory Board will review how the Legislature can enhance the current Legislative TV Channel, launched in 2006, and provide more effective and informative programming about state government, based on the C-SPAN model.

Senate Has New Tasks For Temporary Committee

Along with new rules, the Temporary Committee on Rules and Administration Reform tasked with reporting by December 1, 2009, on: reducing  the  total  number  of standing  committees,  which require changes in the Legislative Law; creating  subcommittees  in  areas  of relatively narrow jurisdiction; limiting the number of standing committees on which members serve; requiring members to be physically present to vote in committee; and recording attendance.

Joint Advisory Board on Broadcast of State Government Proceedings Passes with New Rules

Last night, the Senate also passed a Joint Resolution with the Assembly to create a Joint Advisory Board.

The goal of the new entity is twofold: to devise a plan for a state public affairs television network, i.e., state version of C-SPAN, and to increase programming currently available on the Legislative cable channel.
