ADDABBO: I’M BACK IN ALBANY TO WORK ON MY 2012 PRIORITIES

Queens, NY, January 9, 2012NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens), reports to his constituents that while the legislative session that ended last June was very successful, there is still much work left to be done in Albany and that is why the senator believes that he and the rest of the state legislators will return there to finish urgent business in 2012.  Addabbo believes the state legislature needs to deal with some important priorities this year.

Statement From Senator Patrick M. Gallivan on the Governor’s State of the State Address

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R,C,I - 59th District) was selected by his Senate colleagues today to give official notification to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo that the Senate is standing at ready to conduct its business for 2012. Gallivan notified the Governor prior to the annual State of the State address this afternoon, which Gallivan applauded for “its strong vision for New York State’s future” while stressing the importance of building upon the cooperation and collegiality that enabled last year’s progress.

Statement From State Senator Jose Peralta On Governor Cuomo's State of the State Address

The governor laid out a very ambitious agenda.  His proposals have enormous short-term potential benefits and significant long-term positive ramifications for New York City and New York State.

Most encouraging was the governor's focus on economic development.  There is not a more important issue than the state of the economy and the large number of unemployed and underemployed. I fully and wholeheartedly support the idea of building the country's largest convention center in Queens.

Attention Scarsdale Students!

The League of Women Voters of Scarsdale is planning to select a student to participate in this year's Students Inside Albany conference, which will be held on March 25-28, 2012.

Students Inside Albany is an intensive 4-day conference designed to immerse students in the process by which public policy is proposed, enacted and changed in New York State and to educate them on how they can influence and affect this process.  Students are afforded the opportunity to observe Assembly and Senate sessions and to shadow one of their state legislators.

A downloadable application and additional information may be found on the League website, www.lwvs.org, or by emailing the League at lwvscarsdale@gmail.com.  Applications are due on January 11, 2012.

I  hope to see you in Albany in March!
