Nearly 40,000 Hudson Valley businesses will no longer pay the MTA payroll tax

ALBANY — About 39,400 businesses in the Hudson Valley will no longer have to pay a payroll tax for being located in the Metropolitan Transportation Authority service region, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.

Senator Carlucci Saves Small Businesses Money

Senator David Carlucci today visited Adam Lipson, President & CEO of Network & Security Technologies, to discuss the importance of the new MTA payroll tax reduction on small businesses.  On Wednesday night, the New York State legislature voted to eliminate or substantially reduce the MTA payroll tax for businesses whose payroll is $1.25 million and under.

Prison Gerrymandering Debate

State of Poltiics wrote about the prison-based gerrymandering case. Senator Gianaris believes prison-based gerrymandering is illegal and that the GOP is simply trying to manipulate government for its partisan advantage

Right now, a state supreme court is hearing the case of Little vs. LATFOR. It is the Senate Republicans case challenging the law implemented in 2010 by the then-Democratic lead Senate in which prisoners would be counted at their last known address instead of where they are being incarcerated.

A German teenager has punched holes in Albany's pretense that redistricting is hard
