ALBANY JUNE 8, 2010—State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. today said that the dramatic reform he led in the New York State Senate one year ago was not born out of rebellion, but rather the need to empower all 62 senators and the fastest-growing ethnic population in the state. He also said that the events of June 8, 2009 were fully done within the rules of the New York State Senate.

Griffo Condemns Senate Holiday Break as a "Charade"

Senator Griffo voted against emergency spending that would allow the Senate to take a weeklong recess despite the looming budget deadline.  On the floor of the Senate, Griffo explained his 'no' vote:  "I just think it’s unacceptable.  We should continue to work and strive for this community objective and the responsibility that has been entrusted to us.  For that reason, I vote no."
