Oppenheimer Grant Helps Restore Trees Lost to Storm Damage in Crawford Park

Crawford Park in Rye Brook was particularly hard hit by the devastating snow storm in March 2010.  Numerous trees were lost or badly damaged.  In consultation with the Town of Rye, Senator Oppenheimer arranged for a $5,000 grant for the Town of Rye and the Friends of Crawford Park, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and beautification of the Crawford estate.

In October, she participated in the ceremonial planting of trees that were purchased with the $5,000 grant.  More than 40 substantial-sized specimens were purchased and planted that are large enough in size to withstand the rigors or a public park and day camp.  These included disease-resistant elms, maples, and evergreens.  In conjunction with the Friends’ Tree Fund and memorial donations, this grant goes a long way toward replacing trees lost to age or storm damage.
