Avella Looks to Tackle Muni Meter Tickets

Queens, NY – Today, State Senator Tony Avella announced plans to introduce legislation that would require citywide Muni Meter machines to begin printing tickets that have an adhesive on the back in order to keep them from flipping over or flying away when put on a dashboard.

Senator Avella began looking into possible solutions to this problem after hearing from a number of residents who had received tickets after paying the meter but having the ticket flip over or fly across the dashboard when closing the door.

The City of New York has begun allowing motorists to pay their meters via an app that helps avoid this situation. However, many residents in Senator Avella’s district do not have smart phones and cannot take advantage of this initiative.

In the past, Senator Avella has asked the City to address the concern over Muni Meter tickets on their own but their continued refusal to do so has left the Senator with no choice but to introduce legislation in the New York State Senate.                                                  

“There really shouldn’t have to be legislation introduced to remedy this problem but sadly that seems to be the only way to get the City to consider acting on an issue. The Department of Transportation should be looking into ways to address the concerns of New Yorkers rather than having to be forced to do so. If there is a better way to print these tickets that doesn’t wrongfully fine New Yorkers we need to be looking into that and fixing this nuisance,” said Senator Tony Avella.
