(Brooklyn, NY) State Senator Chu (SD-17) hosted a First Time Homebuyer Seminar in partnership with AAFE Community Development Fund and Federation Italian American Organizations. The Seminar detailed the keys to becoming a homeowner, navigating the mortgage process, and available financial resources.

“Homeownership is a dream come true for many Americans and I’m proud to bring this First Time Homebuyer Seminar to my constituents in Bensonhurst. The process to homeownership can be difficult to navigate and there remains a lack of resources for families, especially those without language capabilities. With this seminar, we begin to inform communities about the necessary steps to take to achieve their dreams,” said NYS Senator Iwen Chu. “It’s wonderful to see different communities at today’s seminar and showcases the true diversity of southern Brooklyn. I thank AAFE Community Development Fund and FIAO for working with my office to organize this First Time Homebuyer Seminar. I look forward to future seminars to help southern Brooklyn families pursue their dreams.”

“Today we saw over 40 people attend this first -time home buyer workshop held in Brooklyn. This demonstrates the overwhelming demand our residents have to buy their own home. We are proud that AAFE Community Development Fund (CDF) is helping our community members make their dream into a reality. We especially want to recognize Senator Chu partnering with us to bring critical resources to our community members,” Said Jessie Lee, AAFE CDF Managing Director

Senator Iwen Chu (SD-17) represents southern Brooklyn to include Kensington, Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, and Bath Beach. She is the first Asian-American woman to serve in the New York State Senate, representing the first official majority-AAPI district in the State.
