BILL NUMBER:A9999 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 572 of the laws of 1994, amend- ing the public health law relating to specific requests for emergency medical service in Suffolk county, in relation to extending the provisions thereof PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill would extend until January 1, 2013 certain EMS restrictions in Suffolk County. It would continue to: 1) preclude, with some exceptions,EMS providers other than those desig- nated by the local governments from responding to EMS requests; 2) require all EMS providers to note in advance any fee for services they render; and 3) require all EMS providers to immediately report emergencies to the publicly operated dispatch authority, to evaluate the need to transport any patient to a hospital, and to comply with the instructions of the dispatching authority. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: This bill extends the sunset of section 3017 of the Public Health Law to January 1, 2013. SWEENEY -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Health AN ACT to amend chapter 572 of the laws of 1994, amending the public health law relating to specific requests for emergency medical service in Suffolk county, in relation to extending the provisions thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 572 of the laws of 1994, amending the public health law relating to specific requests for emergency medical service in Suffolk county, as amended by chapter 99 of the laws of 2008, is amended to read as follows: S 2. This act shall take effect on the first day of the first month beginning at least 30 days after which it shall have become a law and the provisions of this act shall remain in full force and effect until January 1, [2011] 2013 on which date it shall expire and be deemed repealed. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD15941-01-0
