BILL NUMBER:A4811 TITLE OF BILL: An act to authorize the village of Cambridge, in the county of Washing- ton, to offer an optional twenty-five year retirement plan to police officers George G. Bell, Harold P. Spiezio III and Stephen E. Griffin, Jr. PURPOSE: Provides that three full time police officers, George G. Bell, Harold P. Spiezio III and Stephen E. Griffin, Jr. may be eligible for the twen- ty-five year retirement plan. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one - allows the Village of Cambridge to reopen the twenty-five year retirement plan to three officers, who for reasons not ascribable to their own negligence, failed to make timely application for such retirement plan. Section two - states all employer costs associated with this legislation shall be borne by the Village of Cambridge. Section three - contains the effective date. JORDAN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Employees AN ACT to authorize the village of Cambridge, in the county of Washing- ton, to offer an optional twenty-five year retirement plan to police officers George G. Bell, Harold P. Spiezio III and Stephen E. Griffin, Jr. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the village of Cambridge, in the county of Washington, a participating employer in the New York state and local police and fire retirement system; which previously elected to offer the optional twenty-five year retirement plan, established pursuant to section 384 of the retirement and social security law, to police officers employed by such village, is hereby authorized to make participation in such plan available to George G. Bell, Harold P. Spiezio III and Stephen E. Griffin, Jr., police offi- cers employed by the village of Cambridge, who, for reasons not ascriba- ble to their own negligence, failed to make timely application to participate in such optional twenty-five year retirement plan. The village of Cambridge may so elect by filing with the state comptroller, on or before December 31, 2009, a resolution of its board of trustees together with certification that such police officers did not bar them- selves from participation in such retirement plan as a result of their negligence. Thereafter, such police officers may elect to be covered by the provisions of section 384 of the retirement and social security law, and shall be entitled to the full rights and benefits associated with EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
