AN  ACT to amend the public officers law, in relation to indemnification
  of students of the state university of New  York  who  participate  in
  required course activity at sites of affiliates

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 17 of the public officers  law  is
amended by adding a new paragraph (w) to read as follows:
  (W)  FOR  THE  PURPOSES  OF  THIS  SECTION,  THE TERM "EMPLOYEE" SHALL
INCLUDE ANY STUDENT ENROLLED FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME IN A CREDIT  BEARING
COURSE  OFFERED  BY A STATE-OPERATED INSTITUTION IN THE STATE UNIVERSITY
OF NEW YORK FOR WHICH THERE IS A COURSE REQUIREMENT TO COMPLETE A SUPER-
VISED CLINICAL OR EXPERIENCED-BASED AFFILIATION AT AN AFFILIATE'S  SITE,
AS SPECIFIED IN A VALID AFFILIATION CONTRACT, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED
TO,  INTERNSHIPS  AND  SERVICES  PROVIDED  TO  OTHER ENTITIES BY STUDENT
VOLUNTEERS AT UNIVERSITY-SPONSORED CLINICS.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
