BILL NUMBER: S4824 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend chapter 392 of the laws of 2003 relating to creating the Mamakating library district in the town of Mamakating, New York, in relation to changing the structure of the board of such library district PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To authorize up to 15 trustees for the Mamakating Library District Board. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Authorizes the Trustees of the Mamakating Library District to increase by up to 10 (for a total of 15) the total number of Trustees of the Library District. EFFECTS OF PRESENT LAW WHICH THIS BILL WOULD ALTER : Currently there are a total of five trustees of the Mamakating Library District Board. BONACIC -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend chapter 392 of the laws of 2003 relating to creating the Mamakating library district in the town of Mamakating, New York, in relation to changing the structure of the board of such library district THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The opening paragraph of section 3 of chapter 392 of the laws of 2003, relating to creating the Mamakating library district in the town of Mamakating, New York, is amended to read as follows: The Mamakating library district shall be managed, operated, and controlled by a board of trustees consisting of NO LESS THAN five members NOR MORE THAN FIFTEEN MEMBERS. The trustees shall take office on the first day of the month following their election and shall, at the first regular meeting of the board, determine when terms of office of each member shall expire as follows: the two trustees receiving the first and second highest number of votes shall serve for four years, the two trustees receiving the third and fourth highest number of votes shall serve for three years, and the trustee receiving the fifth highest number of votes shall serve for two years. THE TEN ADDITIONAL TRUSTEE POSITIONS ARE WITHIN THE RANGE OF FIVE-FIFTEEN TRUSTEES ALLOWED BY SUBDIVISION ONE OF SECTION TWO HUNDRED SIXTY OF THE EDUCATION LAW AND MAY BE FILLED AS DETERMINED BY THE LIBRARY BOARD AT SUBSEQUENT ELECTIONS.
