BILL NUMBER:S8042 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 457 of the laws of 2005 amending the judiciary law and other laws relating to use of credit cards to pay fees, fines and surcharges, in relation to making permanent the provisions of such chapter PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Makes permanent the authorization to accept certain court-related payments by credit card, and to expand this authorization to all court fees, fines, surcharges. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill makes permanent chapter 457 of 2005 to allow court related payments by credit card, and to expand this authorization to all court fees, fines, surcharges. Section two is the effective date. JUSTIFICATION: Chapter 457 of 2005 was enacted at the request of the Judiciary to expand the authorization of credit card payment collection in New York's courts, and allow to all fines, fees, surcharges that the Judiciary collects to be paid be credit card. This authorization is set to expire on August 9, 2010 and this bill makes such authorization permanent.

SAMPSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Judiciary AN ACT to amend chapter 457 of the laws of 2005 amending the judiciary law and other laws relating to use of credit cards to pay fees, fines and surcharges, in relation to making permanent the provisions of such chapter THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 7 of chapter 457 of the laws of 2005 amending the judiciary law and other laws relating to use of credit cards to pay fees, fines and surcharges, is amended to read as follows: S 7. This act shall take effect immediately [and shall expire and be deemed repealed 5 years after such date]; provided that section four of this act shall take effect on the first of January next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD17266-03-0
