BILL NUMBER:S5082

TITLE OF BILL:
An act
to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to allowing the
use of rifles for hunting in the county of Madison; and providing
for the
repeal of such provisions upon the expiration thereof

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would allow the hunting of deer through the use of a rifle in
Madison County as well as provide for a coextensive sunset of the
provisions of this subdivision.

JUSTIFICATION:
The conservation clubs of Madison County have requested that that County
be included in those areas where sportsmen and women are able to hunt
deer with rifles. Since 2005, several counties in Southern and Central
New York have been allowing the hunting of deer and bear with rifles
with few if any reported incidents or other problems. With that safe
history, it would seem to only make sense to now include Madison County
within these provisions.

PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: Chapter 412 of the Laws of
2008

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None

EFFECTIVE DATE:

Immediately, with provisions
