S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 7945 2011-2012 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y May 25, 2011 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. HOOPER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Consumer Affairs and Protection AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring jewelry repairers to return removed portions of jewelry that is being repaired to consumers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section 392-j to read as follows: S 392-J. JEWELRY REPAIR; RETURN OF JEWELRY TO CONSUMER. A JEWELRY REPAIRER SHALL RETURN ANY PORTION OF JEWELRY WHICH IS REMOVED FROM THE ITEM BEING REPAIRED TO THE CONSUMER AND SHALL INFORM THE CONSUMER OF THE VALUE OF SUCH PORTION OF JEWELRY. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD11716-01-1
