AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to disregarding
  a lawful order of a police officer to stop a motor vehicle

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  The  vehicle  and  traffic law is amended by adding a new
section 1102-a to read as follows:
  S 1102-A. EVASION OF A POLICE OFFICER.  NO PERSON, WHILE  OPERATING  A
MOTOR VEHICLE, SHALL KNOWINGLY FLEE OR ATTEMPT TO ELUDE ANY POLICE OFFI-
CER  AFTER  HAVING RECEIVED ANY SIGNAL FROM SAID POLICE OFFICER TO BRING
THE MOTOR VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP. ANY PERSON  VIOLATING  THIS  PROVISION
SHALL BE GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR.
  S  2.    This  act  shall  take  effect  on the first of November next
succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
