  printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation

AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to  prohibiting
  authorized  emergency  vehicles  from using emergency lights or sirens
  when not in an emergency situation

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1.  Section 1104 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by
adding a new subdivision (g) to read as follows:
  (G) THE DRIVER OF AN AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE SHALL BE  PROHIBITED
FROM USING ANY AUDIBLE SIGNALS, SUCH AS SIRENS, OR EMERGENCY LIGHTS WHEN
THE AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE IS NOT BEING USED IN AN EMERGENCY SITU-
ATION.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
