BILL NUMBER:S5134 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 552 of the laws of 1995 amending the education law relating to contracts for the transportation of school children, in relation to the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to provide a three year extender for student transportation contract provisions. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: The bill extends for another three years until January 1, 2017 chapter 55 of the laws of 1995 as amended by chapter 201 of the laws of 2010. JUSTIFICATION: New safety or operational developments may be devised during the term of a contract for transportation services; often, these developments may not be capitalized on without causing a material change in the contract. This bill would permit a contract to be amended pursuant to the mutual agreement of the parties to the contract and subject to the final approval of the Commissioner. FLANAGAN, FUSCHILLO -- read twice and ordered print- ed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend chapter 552 of the laws of 1995 amending the education law relating to contracts for the transportation of school children, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 552 of the laws of 1995 amending the education law relating to contracts for the transportation of school children, as amended by chapter 201 of the laws of 2010, is amended to read as follows: S 2. This act shall take effect on the first day of January next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law and shall remain in full force and effect until January 1, [2014] 2017, when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD10186-01-3
