BILL NUMBER:S2790

TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to
expanding that portion of the state highway system designated as the
"Shawangunk East Wine Trail"

PURPOSE: Over the past few years, the west bank of the Hudson River
has experienced new growth in the number of wineries and vineyards
that are located in the counties of Orange and Ulster. This bill
expands the state routes that are included on the already existing
Shawangunk East Wine Trail.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1: Amends subdivision 6-a of Section 343-k of the highway law
so that route 17 from its intersection with route 94 in the town of
Chester to route 32 in the unincorporated community of Central Valley
within the town of Woodbury, route 32 to route 94 in the
unincorporated community of Vails Gate within the town of New Windsor,
route 94 to route 9-W in the town of New Windsor, route 9-W to routes
44 and 55 in the unincorporated community of Highland within the town
of Lloyd, and routes 44 and 55 to its intersection with route 208 in
the town of Gardiner shall be designated and known as the "Shawangunk
East Wine Trail".

Section 2: Directs the commissioner of transportation to provide for
the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state
highway system

Section 3: Effective Date.

EXISTING LAW: Under current law route 94 from its intersection with
route 208 in Washingtonville to route 9-W in New Windsor, route 9-W to
routes 44 and 55 in Highland, and routes 44 and 55 to its intersection
with route 208 in Gardiner constitute the "Shawangunk East Wine
Trail".

JUSTIFICATION: The "Shawangunk East Wine Trail" has been extremely
successful in helping Hudson Valley wineries attract customers. This
designation will allow new wineries to participate in the Shawangunk
East Trail. This new reconfiguration will also draw new attention to
the trail and serve to attract additional visitors to it.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

LOCAL FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediate.
