BILL NUMBER:S6816 REVISED 3/19/14 TITLE OF BILL: An act directing the metropolitan transportation authority to rename a certain subway station PURPOSE OF THE BILL: Briarwood - Van Wyck Boulevard (pronounced VanWike) is a local station on the IND Queens Boulevard Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of 84th of 84th Drive and the Van Wyck Expressway, in Briarwood, Queens, it is served by the F train at all times and E evenings, late nights and weekends. This bill would change the name of the Briarwood-Van Wyck subway station to the Briarwood Station. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill requires the MTA to rename the Briarwood-Van Wyck subway station on the IND Queens Boulevard line of the New York City subway the "Briarwood station". The MTA shall ensure that all signs, maps and any other item issued by the MTA are updated to accurately reflect the new name of the station. Section 2 of the bill sets forth an immediate effective date; provided, however that the MTA shall have up to 180 days to change all signs, maps and other items as required section one of this act JUSTIFICATION: The station's original name was Van Wyck Boulevard. AVELLA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities AN ACT directing the metropolitan transportation authority to rename a certain subway station THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Briarwood-Van Wyck subway station on the IND Queens Boulevard line of the New York city subway is hereby named the Briarwood station. The MTA shall ensure that all signs, maps, and any other item issued by the MTA are updated to accurately reflect the new name of the station. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that the MTA shall have up to 180 days to change all signs, maps, and other items as required in section one of this act.
