status in the New York state and local employees' retirement system
with a membership date of September 1, 2005

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:

At the request of the Bedford Central School District, this bill
allows Nancy Porretto to apply for Tier IV status in the New York
State and Local Employees' Retirement System.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:

in the New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System with an
effective date of September 1, 2005, at which point she will be deemed
to have Tier IV status in such system.

Section 2: States that all past employer costs of implementing the
provisions of this act shall be borne by the Bedford Central School
District.

Section 3: Provides an effective date.

JUSTIFICATION:

failed to become a member of the New York State and Local Employees'
Retirement System. The Bedford Central School District takes full
responsibility for this oversight, and at their request, this
legislation allows Ms. Porretto to receive the tier status she should
have received on September 1, 2005. It should be noted that all past
employer costs of implementing the provisions of this act shall be
borne by the Bedford Central School District.

If this legislation is enacted during the 2014 legislative session, we
anticipate that there will be an increase of approximately $3,000 in the
annual contributions of the Bedford Central School District for the
fiscal year ending March 31, 2014.
In addition to the annual contributions discussed above, it is esti-
mated that there will be an immediate past service cost of $5,950 which
will be borne by the Bedford School District as a one-time payment.
This estimate is based on the assumption that payment will be made on
February 1, 2015.
