BILL NUMBER: S6774 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring the lobby or entrance of a licensed massage therapist office on be clearly visible from the outside PURPOSE : This bill seeks to require the lobby area or entrance of a licensed massage therapist office be clearly visible from the outside. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1 of the bill to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring the lobby or entrance of a licensed massage therapist office on be clearly visible from the outside. Section 2 provides the effective date. JUSTIFICATION : There has been a substantial increase in the amount of massage parlors that have set up shop under the guise of 'massage therapists' and promoting prostitution and illegal sexual activities. Many of these shops either obstruct the entire front window with posters or the front lobby area is obstructed by a structure in front of the window

ADDABBO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Consumer Protection AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring the lobby or entrance of a licensed massage therapist office on be clearly visible from the outside THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new article 28-F to read as follows: ARTICLE 28-F LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPIST OFFICES SECTION 491. LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPISTS; OFFICE REQUIREMENTS. S 491. LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPISTS; OFFICE REQUIREMENTS. A PREMISES USED FOR THE LICENSED PRACTICE OF MASSAGE THERAPY, AS DEFINED IN SECTION SEVENTY-EIGHT HUNDRED ONE OF THE EDUCATION LAW, SHALL KEEP ANY STREET FACING WINDOWS IN A LOBBY OR ENTRANCE CLEAR OF MATERIAL THAT OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW FROM THE OUTSIDE. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD13469-02-6
