BILL NUMBER: S6916 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to the powers of the commissioner of the office of mental health PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : Requires the Commissioner to report to the Legislature on a quarterly basis the number of assaults or overt acts by patients resulting in injury to any staff member or patient and to list the degrees of injuries within one of four defined categories. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1 of the bill requires the Commissioner of OMH to develop clear and detailed definitions of at least four graduated categories of injuries. Further requires the Commissioner to report to the Legislature on a quarterly basis the number of assaults or overt acts by patients resulting in injury to any staff member or patient and to list the degrees of injuries within one of four defined categories. JUSTIFICATION : Currently New York State operates four forensic facilities. Central New York Psychiatric Center, Kirby Forensic PC, Mid-Hudson PC, Rochester Regional Forensic Unit, employed here are individual working
