BILL NUMBER: S6944 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the public health law, in relation to designating certain substances as schedule I or schedule II opiates PURPOSE : This bill adds new derivatives of fentanyl to the controlled substance schedule. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section one of the bill adds two new derivatives to Schedule I, bringing New York's schedule in line with the current Federal Schedule. Section two of the bill adds two new fentanyl derivatives to Schedule II, bringing New York in to line with the Federal Schedule. Section three is the effective date. JUSTIFICATION : Fentanyl is a strong pain medication, that when administered in a medical setting, is often combined with anesthesia to prevent surgery related pain. CROCI -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to designating certain substances as schedule I or schedule II opiates THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision (b) of schedule I of section 3306 of the public health law is amended by adding two new paragraphs 56 and 57 to read as follows: (56) ACETYLFENTANYL (N-(1-PHENETHYLPIPERIDIN-4-YL)-N-PHENYLACETAMIDE). (57) BUTYRFENTANYL (N-(1-(2-PHENYLETHYL)-4-PIPERIDINYL) -N-PHENYLBU- TYRAMIDE). S 2. Subdivision (c) of schedule II of section 3306 of the public health law is amended by adding two new paragraphs 29 and 30 to read as follows: (29) REMIFENTANIL (ALSO KNOWN AS ULTIVA) (METHYL 1-(3-METHOXY-3-OXOPROPYL)-4-(N-PHENYLPROPANAMIDO) PIPERIDINE-4-CARBOXY- LATE). (30) SUFENTANIL (ALSO KNOWN AS SUFENTA) (N-[4-METHOXYMETHY1)-1-(2 -THIOFURAN-2-YLETHYL)-4-PIPERIDYL]-N-PHENYLPROPANAMIDE). S 3.
