BILL NUMBER: S7869 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend chapter 618 of the laws of 1998, amending the general municipal law and the education law relating to disposal of surplus computer equipment by political subdivisions, in relation to the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : The purpose of this bill is to provide a three year extender for computer donation provisions. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : This bill extends for three years until July 1, 2019 chapter 618 of the laws of 1998 about donation of computer equipment. JUSTIFICATION : The enactment of chapter 618 of the laws of 1998 and the extension granted in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, and 2013 enabled political subdivisions to donate surplus computer equipment through SED's C.R.E.A.T.E. Programs (5318 of the Education law). To date, hundreds of computers have been donated to local schools, libraries and other

MARTINS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend chapter 618 of the laws of 1998, amending the general municipal law and the education law relating to disposal of surplus computer equipment by political subdivisions, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 3 of chapter 618 of the laws of 1998, amending the general municipal law and the education law relating to the disposal of surplus computer equipment by political subdivisions, as amended by chapter 71 of the laws of 2013, is amended to read as follows: S 3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire July 1, [2016] 2019 when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD15294-01-6
