JAFFEE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Health AN ACT in relation to directing the commissioner of health to provide in publication information concerning breast density THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. As the health concerns that dense breasts increase the likelihood that breast cancer will be missed by mammography, thus affecting the health of an individual, the commissioner of health, shall provide and publish, in electronic or other format, educational materi- als to physicians who refer patients for mammography, regarding screen- ing, assessment, and diagnosis of dense breasts. Such educational mate- rials may include, but shall not be limited to, information regarding screening, screening techniques, the challenges of screening dense breasts, how dense breasts affect one's health, a referral list for supplemental screening, a list of educational websites regarding dense breasts, and literature regarding risk factors. Such educational materi- als shall be made available to health care providers through the offi- cial website of the department of health and by any other means deemed appropriate by the commissioner of health. Subdivision 1 of section 207 of the public health law is amended by adding a new paragraph (m) to read as follows: (M) THE POTENTIAL DANGERS OF DENSE BREASTS AND INFORMATION REGARDING SCREENING, SCREENING TECHNIQUES, THE CHALLENGES OF SCREENING DENSE BREASTS, HOW DENSE BREASTS AFFECT ONE'S HEALTH, A REFERRAL LIST FOR SUPPLEMENTAL SCREENING, A LIST OF EDUCATIONAL WEBSITES REGARDING DENSE BREASTS, AND LITERATURE REGARDING RISK FACTORS.
