BILL NUMBER:S5719 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the tax law, in relation to extending the expiration of the authority granted to the county of Suffolk to impose hotel and motel taxes PURPOSE: This bill extends until December 31, 2017 Suffolk County's authority to impose a hotel and motel tax. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends subdivision 7 of section 1202-o of the tax law to extend until December 31, 2017 the authority for Suffolk County to impose a hotel and motel tax. JUSTIFICATION: In 2009, Suffolk County requested the ability to adopt a new lodging tax rate to provide a dedicated and sustained funding source for the promotion of tourism to the County. Since that time, the proceeds from the lodging tax have been used to promote tourism in Suffolk County and helped fund numerous county parks and cultural programs.

S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 5719 2015-2016 Regular Sessions I N S E N A T E May 29, 2015 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the tax law, in relation to extending the expiration of the authority granted to the county of Suffolk to impose hotel and motel taxes THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 7 of section 1202-o of the tax law, as amended by chapter 159 of the laws of 2009, is amended to read as follows: (7) Such local law shall provide for the imposition of a hotel or motel tax until December thirty-first, two thousand [fifteen] SEVENTEEN. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD11455-01-5
