BILL NUMBER: S6515 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Major General Harold J. Greene Memorial Highway" PURPOSE : This legislation will rename a portion of State Route 20 in Albany County as "Major General Harold J. Greene Memorial Highway." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1: Adds a new section to the highway law. Section 2: Provides that the commissioner of transportation shall install and maintain the ceremonial signage. Section 3: Establishes the effective date as immediately. JUSTIFICATION : Major General Harold J. Greene was raised in Guilderland, New York. Maj. Gen. Greene graduated from Guilderland High School in 1977 and went on to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). At RPI he joined the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) to fulfill a

Greene Memo- rial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-e to read as follows: S 344-E. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "MAJOR GENERAL HAROLD J. GREENE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE TWENTY/ONE HUNDRED FORTY-SIX IN THE TOWN OF GUILDERLAND, COUNTY OF ALBANY, BEGINNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROUTE TWENTY AND NORTHBOUND STATE ROUTE ONE HUNDRED FORTY-SIX, CONTINUING IN A GENERALLY EASTERLY DIRECTION ON STATE ROUTE TWENTY/ONE HUNDRED FORTY-SIX, AND TERMINATING AT THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROUTE TWENTY AND SOUTHBOUND STATE ROUTE ONE HUNDRED FORTY-SIX, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "MAJOR GENERAL HAROLD J. GREENE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be of cere- monial nature and the official name of such shall not be changed as a result of this act.
