ROSENTHAL -- read once and referred to the Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to requiring certain persons providing substance abuse treatment on counseling to complete training in medication assisted treatment THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 19.31 of the mental hygiene law, as added by a chapter of the laws of 2016 amending the mental hygiene law relating to requiring certain persons providing substance abuse treatment on coun- seling to complete training in medication assisted treatment, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 7301 and A. 10294, is amended to read as follows: § 19.31 Medication assisted treatment training requirement. Every person who is a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor pursuant to subdivision (d) of section 19.07 of this article [or a qualified health care professional] who provides treatment or counseling services at a substance use disorder facility, [at a school or pursuant to the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000,] shall, within eighteen months of the effective date of this section or within one year of commencing the provision of any such treatment or counseling, which- ever shall be later, successfully complete a course of instruction relating to medication assisted treatment approved by the office. § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a chapter of the laws of 2016 amending the mental hygiene law relating to requiring certain persons providing substance abuse treat- ment on counseling to complete training in medication assisted treat- ment, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 7301 and A. 10294, takes effect.
