BILL NUMBER: S1158 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as "Thurgood Marshall Interchange" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : This purpose of this bill is to designate a section of the New York State Thruway route 87/route 287 in the village of Hillburn, town of Ramapo, county of Rockland, as the "Thurgood Marshall Interchange" SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1 of this bill shall designated a new portion of New York State route 87/route 287 interchange in the village of Millburn, town of Ramapo, county of Rockland, as "Thurgood Marshall Interchange" Section 2 states the commissioner of transportation shall provide further installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated by section one of this act. CARLUCCI -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as "Thurgood Marshall Interchange" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-f to read as follows: § 344-F. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS "THURGOOD MARSHALL INTERCHANGE". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY ROUTE 87/ROUTE 287 INTER- CHANGE IN THE VILLAGE OF HILLBURN, TOWN OF RAMAPO, COUNTY OF ROCKLAND, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "THURGOOD MARSHALL INTERCHANGE". § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act. § 3.
