BILL NUMBER: S1840 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the social services law, in relation to posting child day care provider qualifications on the office of children and family services' website PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To provide child care providers with the opportunity to publicize their participation in quality enhancing training programs, and to provide parents with greater knowledge of available child care programs. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section one of the bill would authorize child care providers to submit to OCFS any additional education or trainings related to the provision of child care that they have completed. OCFS would be required to post such information online. Section two sets an immediate effective date. JUSTIFICATION : Currently, parents can view basic and limited information about a child care provider on the OCFS website. This information includes

KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Social Services AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to posting child day care provider qualifications on the office of children and family services' website THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 390-a of the social services law is amended by adding a new subdivision 6 to read as follows: 6. LICENSED OR REGISTERED PROVIDERS MAY SUBMIT TO THE OFFICE OF CHIL- DREN AND FAMILY SERVICES ANY RELEVANT TRAINING COMPLETED BEYOND THAT REQUIRED PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION. SUCH TRAINING MAY INCLUDE, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, CREDENTIALS RECEIVED FROM A LOCAL, STATEWIDE OR NATIONAL ORGANIZATION, EDUCATIONAL CREDITS EARNED AND COURSES TAKEN IN THE FIELD OF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATION OR SAFETY, AND ANY PARTIC- IPATION IN A QUALITY RATING AND IMPROVEMENT SYSTEM. THE OFFICE OF CHIL- DREN AND FAMILY SERVICES SHALL POST SUCH INFORMATION ON ITS WEBSITE. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
