BILL NUMBER: S5149 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the tax law, in relation to extending the authorization of the county of Rensselaer to impose an additional one percent of sales and compensating use taxes PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : This legislation authorizes the imposition of an additional one percent sales tax in Rensselaer County until November 30, 2019. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1 amends clause 3 of subparagraph (i) of section 1210 of the tax law to authorize the continuation of an additional one percent sales tax in Rensselaer County until November 30, 2019. Section 2 states the effective date. JUSTIFICATION : This legislation has been introduced at the request of the Rensselaer County Legislature. Under current law, Rensselaer County is authorized to collect an additional one percent sales tax. This is due to expire

MARCHIONE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern- ment Operations AN ACT to amend the tax law, in relation to extending the authorization of the county of Rensselaer to impose an additional one percent of sales and compensating use taxes THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Clause 3 of subparagraph (i) of the opening paragraph of section 1210 of the tax law, as amended by chapter 175 of the laws of 2015, is amended to read as follows: (3) the county of Rensselaer is hereby further authorized and empowered to adopt and amend local laws, ordinances or resolutions imposing such taxes at a rate which is one percent additional to the three percent rate authorized above in this paragraph for such county for the period beginning September first, nineteen hundred ninety-four and ending November thirtieth, two thousand [seventeen] NINETEEN; § 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD10529-01-7
