BILL NUMBER: S6103 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the education law, in relation to the requirements for a license as a professional land surveyor PURPOSE : To update certain licensing requirements for land surveyors. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1. Amends section 7206-a of the education law to update the education and experience requirements for licensure for professional land surveyors. The new update includes: *Education: an associate's degree or higher in land surveying, engineering, math or related science with fifteen credits in land surveying *Experience: Applicants that file an application and fee within two years of the effective date of this chapter may be eligible to use two years of study in engineering or land surveying beyond an associate's degree to fulfill two years of experience out of the eight necessary. Section 7206-a of the education law, as added by chapter 987 of the laws of 1971, paragraph 3 of subdivision 1 and subdivision 2 as amended by chapter 32 of the laws of 1981, paragraph 6 of subdivision 1 as amended by chapter 133 of the laws of 1982 and paragraph 8 of subdivision 1 and subdivision 3 as amended by chapter 62 of the laws of 1989, is amended to read as follows: § 7206-a. Requirements for a license as a professional land surveyor. 1. The new update includes: *Education: an associate's degree or higher in land surveying, engineering, math or related science with fifteen credits in land surveying *Experience: having practical experience satisfactory to the department, provided that the department may accept study beyond the associate's degree in partial fulfillment of the requirement. This amendment also clarifies the requirements for intern land surveyors. Subdivision 2 is also added to provide for a process for examination and identification of an "intern land surveyor". Subdivision 2 in the law has been changed to become subdivision 2-a.
